Silicon nitride

siliziumnitrid

Si3Nis a highly resistant material used in lightweight construction and high-temperature applications. Silicon nitride is ideal for use with components exhibiting high mechanical strength even when exposed to sudden stresses and showing consistent resistance to high operational temperatures, corrosive media and heavy wear. Sembach is able to efficiently manufacture complex shaped prototypes and large-batch components of sintered silicon nitride (SSN) using injection molding, dry pressing and 5-axis milling.

Unrivaled when it comes to hardness, bending strength, fracture toughness and wear resistance

  • Low density of 3.2 to 3.3 g/cm³
  • High bending strength (up to 1,000 MPa)
  • High wear resistance
  • Good friction values (extremely low sliding friction)
  • High-temperature strength
  • High creep resistance
  • High fracture toughness (7 MPam1/2)
  • Low coefficient of thermal expansion and resulting in high thermal shock resistance
  • Operating temperatures up to 1,300° C
  • Excellent resistance to corrosion, aggressive chemicals and molten metals such as aluminum and magnesium

Si3Nis ideally suited for challenging applications

  • Components for combustion engines, power plants and other energy or chemical technology systems
  • All types of sealings, glide rings and bearings exposed to high stresses
  • Pump impellers used for aggressive media
  • Guides for leading components such as wires, fibers and threads
  • Cutting tools for materials difficult to machine
  • Tools used in foundry technology
  • Tools used in sheet metal forming
  • Nozzles used in welding technology
  • Base plates for mechanical and chemical treatment of silicon wafers
